NSW General Powerboat licence

The course is for beginners and those that have experience but would like some additional instruction and to get their NSW boat licence.
- Australian Sailing (practical and theory)
One day practical with a separate theory session. On successfully completion you will be awarded an Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling certificate which you can use to apply for you boating licence at Service NSW (logbook and theory test are not required).
- Half day practical course:
Half a day on the water learning how to handle a powerboat. On successful completion we will sign your logbook. You will need to complete the NSW Service theory test separately before applying for your licence.
Practical
- Safety and preparation (kill cord, life jackets, trip preparation..)
- Low-speed manoeuvres (coming alongside, turning in confined space, holding station, using spring lines, towing, anchoring, pickup mooring..)
- High-speed manoeuvres (safety, handling at speed, trim, stability, swell & waves, bar crossings..)
- Application of collision regulations whilst underway
- Emergencies (man overboard, radio, responsibilities)
Theory
- Types of craft (hull types, and handling characteristics)
- Parts of the boat (terminology)
- Engines (types, basic maintenance and fault finding)
- Launching (boat trailers, tides,..)
- Personal equipment (clothing, lifejackets..)
- Basic weather (forecasts, sea state, effect of wind and tide)
- Collision regulations and bouyage
- Navigation and passage planning (calculate course, tides, chart plotter)
